The TradeArea Toolkit ™ helps you create different types of trade areas.
Many people prefer a custom trade area rather than a ring or drive time. By drawing a trade area, natural boundaries such as rivers, or mountains, as well as other boundaries like highways that might divide the area, can be taken into consideration.
REGIS™ has an easy-to-use tool for setting up and creating a trade area layer. By clicking on the TradeArea Toolkit ™, a new layer is created and made editable, or an existing layer is made editable and the polygon tool is activated.
Customer Analysis
The Customer Analysis Tool creates trade areas around merchant locations, based on a percentage of that merchant’s customers. For example, if you have two store locations you can create a trade area around each one based on a specific number of customers.
After you create the trade area, you can then apply other REGIS™ functions to the trade area, such as the QuikInfo™ Tool to capture the demographic data.
Focus Builder
The Focus Builder tool builds a radius based on a value, not a size. Rather than creating a standard radius ring, DriveTime or DriveDistance, the Focus Builder allows you to create rings according to different demographic variables such as population, households, business, and employees.
This is where you can bring in your own table of points. A series of trade areas will then be created around each point in that table. This function is particularly useful for companies that want to create population trade areas around many stores.
Population Based Trade Area
Easily create trade areas based on the population around a point. These trade areas can be based on total population, households, businesses or employees.
Create Grids
The Grids Tool will build a network of shapes, of any size, within a specified area. For example, if you have a particular spacing you wish to create, you can use the Create Grids tool to establish a network of trade areas.
After you create your grids, you can then apply other REGIS™ functions to the trade areas, such as the Data Fill command, to manipulate and pull calculations from the new trade areas.
Build Trade Areas from Point Files
The Point File Tool creates a trade area around every single location in your table. For example, if you have a table of Intersections you can create trade areas around each individual point.
After you create the point file trade areas, you can then apply other REGIS™ functions to the trade area, such as the QuikInfo™ Tool to capture demographic data in that area
Geometric Trade Areas
The Geometric Tool allows you to perform various functions to selected trade areas. For example, if you have overlapping trade areas you can isolate just the overlapping area and then perform a cannibalization study on that area.
The Geometric Tools allow you to perform various operations. For example, if you have overlapping trade areas you can perform a cannibalization study.
- Merge – Merges all selected objects into one object. The objects do not need to be touching in order to be combined. Once combined, you can move the objects as one unit.
- Split – Creates a trade area from two overlapping regions. If you split two overlapping objects, you will end up with three new objects.
- Erase – Removes the outside regions, keeping only the overlapping area. The piece remaining will be from the bottom object.
- Divide – Splits the trade area evenly. You can change the line outline and fill style if you choose.
Create Intersection Points
The Intersections Tool creates a point wherever two objects intersect. It is primarily used with the Major Roads database to create points where major streets intersect each other.
The new table of intersections can now be used to run queries on and gather demographic information about.
